Skermunkil & Two Two

I have my eye on these ceramic dolls by Skermunkil. One of the lovely things I spotted at Design Indaba Expo that made it onto my wish list. I have a jewellery piece from Skermunkil that DH bought me and it's nice to see what else they are up to.

I did however, fork out the cash for the piece above - in black. Dramatic, yes? It's a collar type thingy that can be worn a variety of ways. Designed by Twotwo - a talented pair of sisters.

Gloss.

Slick meets natural. Wood stools by Judith Seng. Seen here.

The a,b,c of jewellrey.

Great find for type fans from esty seller 'plastique'. And another great new online store just launched here. Congrats Denise!

It's bollocks, pure and simple.

I think I'll have to get this book. Looks like just the right amount of bluntly put anti-self-help type of self help! And I think Janet Street-Porter is hilarious.

"The fact of the matter is, if you don't want bags under your eyes, go to bed early. If you notice your chin sagging, talk a lot! If you don't want to look your age—a miserable old cow—smile! That'll take 10 years off for a start."

Cassette tape cool.

So eighties, so teenage, so cool. Here.

'Gay Paree'

Gorgeous. I want, I want, I want!  Map of Paris seen on decor8
Available here. And a London version too.

New baby.

Not a flesh and blood one. An aluminum and back-lit led super-shiny Apple macbook.
But of course now I want this stylish 'Wooden Laptop Case with leather lining and magnetic closing device.' By Rainer Spehl

Trailblazers, Pathfinders, Groundbreakers.

Women of Design looks like a great collection of work by talented women. I hadn't realised that the Japanese art director Nagi Noda had passed away a few months ago. How sad to loose such a talent. I've blogged about her animal hair hats before. I'll have to put this publication by the clever people of UnderConsideration on my wish list.

Two things I love.

I want these. Badly.

Shoes glorious shoes!

High heel typeface.

I own a lot of lovely heels. But I've become lazy. Lately all I seem to wear are Converse or slip slops.  I still love shoes - and one of my favourite shoe designers is the architect Rem Koolhaas. Yes, architect. Collaborating with Galahad Clark under the brand United Nude. I think the best part is that some of their shoes take inspiration from iconic furniture pieces like the Barcelona chair. A few of their designs are on my wish list.

Shoe fan? A must visit is the virtualshoemuseum.

Above images from United Nude.

I can blame my recent resurgence of interest in footwear on these two lovely bloggers who have become favourites of mine. They've started a shoe blog: ShoeLove. Do check it out for many beautiful pairs!

Peony in Love by Lisa See is a book that I read recently where the process of foot binding was explained in detail. Although I understand that it was a sign of wealth and prestige and understood to be erotic it's quite horrifying to see such misshapen feet in reality. I'm fascinated by the beauty and pain connection and of course women still suffer for beauty today when it comes to shoes - statistics say we have four times as many foot problems as men.

Hmm... doesn't seem to curb that shoe lust though!

Listography (Your life in lists)

In the hope of being more organised, I make lists constantly. The boring ones: things to do/buy, people to call/email and the more exiting lists: wishlists, lists of things to achieve, (um, learn to program html) lists of places to travel etc. At the beginning of each new year I copy into my new Moleskin diary those lists I still need check off. Aaah, what small thing but what a wonderful feeling to check scratch things off lists.

I haven't bought this book or registered on listography yet, but I am tempted...

Seven Sins by Trixie

I came across the the work of trixiedelicious on flickr. "Trixie loves to create art for people with a sense of humour." It definitely appeals to mine.

You can buy her work on esty. I'm already a fan of putting plates on the wall and love the combination of type styles she has used in the larger grouping. Hmm... there might be a purchase in the offing...

Suitably PINK

This lacey table cloth, suitably pink, and made of vinyl is on its way to me! Well, actually on it's way to my SIL who will be on her way to SA pretty soon. I've had my eye on it for a while... it's from rockettstgeorge.

DI

I visited the Design Indaba Expo over the weekend. Very cool, so much to look at I wasn't sure where to start. Below are a few things I thought I'd share. I didn't have a camera with me but for Indaba coverage see ElleDeco blog written by the lovely Heather.

I bought some great ribbon from Ebony and Ivory. Not even sure what I'm going to do with it yet...rosettes...trims to cushions... and I'll definitely be visiting them in Diep River now that I know they exist.

Sway, previously posted about by Freshly Found, was out on exhibit. Great pattern designs.

Great Fabric design. Such a pity that they don't have a site to peruse.

I bought a great pale pink coca cola bottle vase made by Homebakes. Love it.

Corneel is a designer and set builder. His latest business card is embossed to feel like goose flesh! Unfortunately I don't have a shot of his product on exhibit, the dolly vase.

And this was the tip of the iceberg! I'm looking forward to attending the conference on Friday.

Wish list

LOVE these shoes. Please take note DH. We don't have Zara in SA but I can easily google the address of the closest Zara store to your NYC Chelsea hotel... : )

Anyone who notices the obvious contradicion between my 'wish list' posts and my 'declutter/simplify' posts, please ignore. It's the nature of the beast I'm afraid.
